25 years on Mubarak 's rule

Today The regime in Egypt celebrates the 25th anniversary of Mubarak's rule to Egypt , I said regime because really no one from the majority of Egyptian people real care , you see the Egyptian People lost counting the years , they got 25 years bored

Today El-Akhbar "The News" official newspaper celebrated the event today by issuing a free supplement under the name "Egypt in 25 years".Of course this couple of page free edition contains testimonies for the men of Mubarak's regime like Safwat El-Sherif and Fatahy Sororr

You know President Mubarak made a record in the 20th century and 21st century as his rule period extended to 25 years , that is a quarter of century

Egypt in 25 years , the last 25 years ,wow if I spoke about this I probably need months and a whole new blog

25 years in Mubarak's rule , man I am only 22 years old so I can be considered of Mubarak's generation :(

Talking seriously Egypt changed dramatically in the last 25 years .The whole World already changed but........

You want the truth and I am fasting right now ,I miss Egypt of the old days , It is not about political freedom and democracy , for God Sake Egypt didn't have a real political freedom and democracy except only for shot period that doesn't count as non successive ten years

I miss the people's manner and ethics , Egyptian were famous from their integrity , there was less corruption , People were still polite ,it is strange because I don't know any people except those of the last 25 years !!!

About Mubarak's rule here is a fast summary :

  1. Corruption reached to the highest level in the last 25 years
  2. Debts reached to the highest level in the last 25 years
  3. Unemployment reached to the highest level in the last 25 years
  4. Egyptian Position in the Arab world reached to the lowest level in the last 25 years "at least in El-Sadaat era ,we were right at that time"
  5. We are turned back to a monarchy

Man do you believe that I can't write more about Mubarak's real achievements in the last 25 years because they are so many !!??

  1. 25 years...sad isn't it?? I have no objections on your points at all Zeinab, it's really too much for any country. I was touched by your grief for our vanishing ethics and values that now we always read about in the history books.

I want to make a point here but I jope you will get me right. First i have to clearly state that I'm not affiliated with any political power in Egypt (never been and never will), and I don't want you think that I'm defending Mubarak's rule in Egypt, it's unacceptable for any head of state to stay in power for 25 years (with/without elections), I'll just try to comment on your summary for Mubarak's rule over the past 25 years:

1-Corruption reached to the highest level in the last 25 years: Corruption was in Egypt since couple thousands of years and the peak was during the Othman Empire era, and yes the corruption in Egypt is in dangerous levels but that's not only the fault of Mubarak's regime, it's an outcome of many social and plitical errors since 1952! WE SHARE THE RESPONSABILITY.

2-Debts reached to the highest level in the last 25 years: In my opinion, we can divide egypt's economical crisis cause into two parts; The Nasser deadly mistakes ( the socialism) + Sadat's EARLY THAN IT SHOULD BE economy turnaround (INFTAH), Yet Mubarak's regime wasn't so successful in solving those already existing problems and that's another story

3-Unemployment reached to the highest level in the last 25 years ; The free education + the governmant policies i agree, but...we're lazy by default and I don't think i need to give you examples from where i live (China/Taiwan) :)

4-Egyptian Position in the Arab world reached to the lowest level in the last 25 years "at least in El-Sadaat era ,we were right at that time" ; Execuse me, What ARAB? and where r the Arabs? Is there something on earth still called Arabs? We're Egyptians ya Zeinab and I hope we stick to that first, if we we'll try to please the Arab (leaders and people) we would've been in/out wars over the last 25 years, look at the European Union, countries with almost nothing in common (languages, cultures,....etc) and they can set aside their differences and create the EU and the Euro as a kick-off to their social and economical prospering. When we're able to SIT, TALK, LISTEN to eachother then i will have faith in the Arab Nationalism. And please say hi to the Gaddafi for me :)

5-We are turned back to a monarchy: have we been something else except monarchy in our known history? Well, this will change eventually but I don't blame the Mubatak's policies only...i blame the UNORGANIZED opposition and the carelessness of the general public...ya 3am ana mally howa ana elly hasala7 el koon, ahy mashya w rabena yostor :)

I hope you got my point and great work ya Zeinab, your blog became one of my daily MUST-READ websites.

  2. Sorry..one more thing I forgot to mention, I was so moved and touched and almost cried when i saw the news on the newspaper that during the last African Cup in Egypt theousands of people were fighting to get tickets to attend the matches and even couldn't find it in the black market!!! I was also SO HAPPY to read the news about a sleepless night in Cairo after we won the whole thing!!! But why i wasn't surprised when i heard the news that only 23% of the voters showd up on our proclaimed first free election?? if you have an answer please help me with it before i lose the rest of my mind :)

Zeinab, if we can put 10% of our soccer patriotizm in our daily life and our political stans, we'd be better nation since LONG TIME AGO my dear

Final Word : Egypt News of the day "Howa Shekabala hayl3ab fel Zamalek walla la2??"

    :)

    Cheers

1- I agree with you that we share in THE RESPONSABILITY as you referred ,Our silence ,our fear ,but who caused it , plus we must blaming the past , 25 years what happened in them ,is it the people , surely they got their share ,but this is how the Egyptians had, has and will have been silent about their stolen rights , if you read the Personality of Egypt for Gamal Hamadan you will find this

2- You are 100% right our main problem in Egypt in economy that we want open market with centralized political system , it can't happen , To reach to a real free powerful economy you must have a political reform , a complete one

3-Unemployement , it is not like you think ,it is more about connections , the gov't can make projects to help young men , come on Garmeen bank went great with uneducated women ,imagine the idea to be implemented in Egypt or better cut off the gov't expenditures from millions on fancy ministers cars, villas and offices , believe we are not lazy , if you have an idea of the billions that are stolen from this country , that can be used in useful projects you will be shocked :(
3- I won't agree on this totally, because simply one of the few things good in Nasser that Egypt was leading the Arabs , Yes we are Egyptians ,just as We arabs and as We muslims , I don't know how to explain more but we never entered Wars to please this or that arabic leader as Mubarak wants us to believe , which war please in 48 or 56 or 67 or 73 ?? only in Yemen ,and it was ur regime wanted to put a foot near KSA when both countries were not having good relations
5-Not being a monarchy except for the last 50 and something years it is not excuse to be silent for what is going now in Egypt , of course

I got your idea, and yes we are paying the price of being passive silent for all this time :(

you know I was in the street when we made this false victory in African cup , not for celebrating unfortunately , but I saw it ,I saw it alive ,I swear my aunt lived 1973 and she was with me , she told me that the people were n't as happy as were on that day ,I saw people screaming as loud as I can remember "long live Egypt ","Egypt,Egypt", that till now shivers me , you know those people loved their flag to be waved everywhere ,I wrote about this day
People really want to happy and proud with their country ,this is the only thing I can tell you
